Default Car Insurance Claim Void - Truth Or Myth?

My uncle sent me this in my mailbox recently. Sounds plausible, but you never know. Read on and tell me what you think. Could this be true... or just another urban myth?

Quote:
CAR INSURANCE CLAIM VOID... PLEASE READ STORY. BEWARE!!!

This is a real story, my nephew told me, & I would like to share with
all of you. Be careful, if u hv the habit of sending yr car for car
wash or similar matter (car jockey etc) while in shopping complex...

Two weeks ago my nephew sent his Toyota Harrier for car wash in the
car park of Bangsar Shopping Complex while he had an appointment
there. He handed the car keys to the car wash people n left the car
park for his appointment.

After the appointment he went to collect his car, & the car wash
people told him that his car had been collected. How CAN??? After a
prolonged argument without any results, he had no choice, but to make
a police report... n follow up by insurance claim...

Insurance company rejected his claim 'cos the reason is the car was
not stolen, the point of contention was why did he hand over the car
keys to someone unknown, n why did he not wait there till the car
washing was finished...???

So, be careful next time. If u really need to send yr car for car
wash, better stay there and wait for yr car, if not, this may happen
to you...
ALWAYS GET AN OFFICIAL RECIEPT LIKE YOU DO WHEN YOU SENT YOUR CAR FOR
SERVICING AT HONDA, PROTON, TOYOTA... DON'T PLAY THE FOOL.

Pls forward this msg to your all your friends to warn all of them...

-------------------------

Thank you for the Information.

I am a Senior Manager with MCIS ZURICH and confirm that if you hand over the keys of your car for someone to take care example :- Car Wash, Car Park and on your return if the Car is 'taken' away, Insurer will not pay for the 'Loss'.

huh? Like that also consider void? Car already not there wor. But then if wash car, before the owner come and collect need some verifications right? Hmm, let me ask around to see if it voids the insurance policy or something..I wonder is this due to the Insurance Company.

Seems kind of crazy but I didn't find anything on the urban legend websites about it. I did find that this story was posted on a few different blog and websites. Somehow I think it's an urban legend.

Well we work on cars where I work in car audio and the company has to have special insurance coverage for us to drive vehicles. Three of us are insured to drive vehicles on the premises and also in the parking lot only.

If we drive vehicles off our property we have to use our "dealer" plate and are insured for that as well. For the record I am not handing my keys to some 18 year old at the Jiffy Lube or car wash

Simple. I wash and polish my car myself. The only time I handle my keys is when I'm at the official workshop.

Ya and its getting more and more sticky. We can't even drive customers to work anymore without special coverage on our personal insurance policies

Part of it is customer liability, most of it is usually worker compensation. If anything happens to the worker, company is liable. So it's for both really. It was a big issue in HR and law in college...
