Hi everyone

Since I bought the motheboard I'm using right now, almost a year and a half ago, and I've scratching my head real hard about three subtle and incomprehensible options. But first let me tell you about my machine's specs:

1. Processor: Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz, with hyperthreading.
2. Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-i8775PE, based on intel's i865PE chipset.
3. RAM: 3GB Kingstone's 3200 DDRAM, non-ECC, 2 stick each one Gigabyte, and another two sticks each 512 MB
4. Monitor: Viewsonic 20" LCD VX2025_wm monitor
5. Video Card: Nvidia 7800 GS by BFG.
6. Sound Card: Creative F-xi platinum sound card
7. speaker system: Logitech z5500 5.1 digital speakers.
8. Hard drives: Two SATA hard drives, 250 GB each, by Western Digital.

I'm using the latest version of the bios available from Gigabyte's website, version F6. The three options puzzling me are:

1. PSB parking.
2. Dynamic Paging mode.
3. Fast Chip select.

I would really appreciate any comment, or even the time spent reading about problem.

Best Regards

I'm not sure if these were still open questions or not but... some additional options and question:

"Init Display First:" will also have "onboard" as an option on the nForce 410 (and above) chipsets. Sets the GPU you want the computer to boot with.

"Hammer Fid Control:" This is your CPUs frequency multiplier. This is what was called "FSB" is multiplied by to provide your CPU clock speed. Sometimes you can achieve a better overclock by reducing this and the HT freq multiplier. raising the 'FSB' to get a better match to fast memory (DDR550/DDR600) and a full speed HT. Sometimes is the keyword... not often.

"Maximum Payload Size:" Looking for an explanation of this one myself. If anyone has a link to a good explanation of this one that'd be great! -- Skip

When the CPU hits a thermal limit (read 'way too hot') it slows down the CPU by the % above to cool it . The higher the % the slower it runs the CPU and so cools it faster but at a loss of performance while the CPU is "throttled" back. This really should NEVER be invoked or you have a serious overheating problem... probably a dead HSF fan or you knocked the HSF off the CPU during your last drunken Karoke party.

Set to 50% or higher IMHO. Think this might have been covered someplace but not finding it this minute. -- Skip

BIOS Option : Virtualization Technology
Options : Enabled, Disabled
Motherboard : Asus P5W DH Deluxe
Chipset : Intel i975x

This option ist used to enable/disable the Intel Virtualization technology (also called Vanderpool).

I don't know, if motherboards for AMD CPUs have a similar option for AMD virtualization (Pacifica).

Edit:

I also found this option in the manual of the MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition Motherboard:

BIOS Option : Virtualization Technology
Options : Enabled, Disabled
Description: When enabled, a VMM can utilize the additional hardware capabilities provided by vendor-pool technology.
Motherboard : MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition
Chipset : Intel i975x

vendor-pool is a typo in the manual, because the correct name is vanderpool.

The right section for this feature in the BOG would be processor.

Thanks, MrBurns! Will add it to the list ASAP.

BTW, the typo is hilarious.

Hello beloma,

Thanks for your support!

And thanks for the list. I will work on them as soon as I can.

Incidentally, No-Execute Memory Protect has already been posted here.

It's okay. It's understandable. There are currently about 388 BIOS settings in there!

I thought it stood for "Power Management Event" but seeing it used in front of the "event" casts some doubt on that.
