Hey, I have a RAM-related question, that probably most of you can answer. Today I bought a stick of ddr1 ram 1 gig, and inserted it in one of the four memory slots in my mobo. Originally it had 512 mb or ram in 2 sticks of 256mb each. I removed one of the 256 sticks and replaced it with the 1 gig one. When I turned on the computer, it booted fine, but it make a single beep and displayed a message says something along the lines of "dual channel needs sticks of the same ram in each slot. It then continued to load windows fine. I turned off the pc, inserted the other 256mb stick into an empty slot, and now it still makes the beep, but shows no message. Im typing this with all three sticks, for an amount of 1.5gigs of ram. Its that ok to leave like that, beeping each time it boots? Or is it going to make my mobo explode or something? Is that beep a sign of harm being done to my computer?

thank in advanced

its fine, the beep probably means that dual channel is not working
but this is correct since you only have 3 sticks
(you need two or four stick for dual channel to work)

Been a while since I've heard DDR1 referred to as "classic" hehe. There's still millions of home computers stuck on Intel P4 socket 478 and AMD socket 939.

I'm one of them, but planning to move to DDR2 very soon. Plus, you can't buy a new DDR system from store today anymore.

And don't forget the S.754 and certain earlier S.775 platforms too.
