Default 7 sisters and 238,000 cousins

Ok.... maybe not 238,000 but more than I care to count.

Trin asked me to capture this a while ago....

Self criticism -> still need help on focus & need slower ISO and WAY more exposure time! at least the nubulosity is beginning to become apparent.

ISO 800 - ~20 min. exposure

I'm really impressed. You can actually see individual stars. There's no way I can take that with my D70.

Hmm.. It would actually make a nice dark desktop background.

BTW, there appears to be some blooming around some of the stars. Is that due to the long exposure -> earth rotation? Or is that just atmospheric interference?

Beautiful Pleiades!

LOL! Interesting fact, that cluster of stars is the Subaru logo....

We've been having horrible weather lately. I was enjoying looking at the moon through my telescope when it was clearer... I need to get an ND filter equivalent though. Its so bright I had to use my sunglasses. :\

Did you mount that on your uber cool telescope Ishtim? Some telescopes track stars (the ones with a tracking feature) as they move through the sky.

Actually, it is a reflection nebula around several of the stars. Additional exposure would show more, almost as if someone blurred it with paint brush strokes. You should be able to see this if you get away from bright city lights or go up high on a mountain. It looks like a "tiny" little dipper about the size that you could cover up with your thumb with arm extended.

Yes here is a phone pic of the rig... 300D "piggybacK" looking through the 80mm scope and webcam used to "track" mount. Notice homemade buggy with lawnmower wheels...

Can you see Tech ARP frontpage on notebook???

Good find Psy...
From Subaru .com

Quote:
Subaru is itself a scientific term. In Japanese, the word means "unite" and refers to the cluster of six stars shown on the Subaru logo, which most Americans know as the Pleiades (in the constellation Taurus). According to Greek mythology, these are the daughters of Atlas whom Zeus carried to safety and placed in the sky. In Japanese tradition, however, the Subaru have been interpreted as seeds, which become visible in springtime as a signal to begin planting, or as a fishing net, which signals the time of teeming waters. More poetically, this constellation is also known as the "Brush Daub," for it can look as though a giant hand had dabbed the night sky there with a brush of white.
