I'd advice getting a 20D equivalent or even a 400D 1st, get the experience and earn the money to buy you the 1Ds... hehe immediately getting the 1Ds is really overkill.

In fact, you'd want to spend more on lenses than the body. one super pro body with just one lens or two isn't as fun as a 400D with tonnes of pro lens. now THAT's where the fun is.

Yeah, I rather get a 30D, and tons of good lens like 70-200, 17-40, 24-70, most of the 1.4 prime lenses.

It is a little overkill though the grest thing about it is that I am not really apying for it! its sort of a present which is a result of a large cash flow, the person getting it for me is splashing out on the family and so since I am not paying thre is nothing to loose! still, means I will have lots of money for selses out of my pay

Theoretical_Photographer, you're the only person i know who owns the same cameras as i do!! (Cams:EOS 350D, s7000 aka Dust monster)

Seblington, my thoughts are as what peaz and Chai mentioned.

use the same amount of $$$ - get a beginner / s-pro body AND tonnes of great lens rather than just a Pro-body with not many lens to play around.

i mean seriously, having a pro body and just 1 lens is just pointless when you could use lower-level camera body and a lot of good lens, you'll have a variety of shots / compositions to play around with!! yes, lotsa experiments and feel good about it.
