Default Camera Problem and Fix

My Canon S400 developed a problem yesterday, I was just about to take a set of some more great rubens and fries. And turn camera on and shoot...Beep "memory card error". I did this and that, then try to format it,,, Nothing worked! (A great loss for the dinner thread!)

Try google just a while ago, And yes I find the problem. A common problem for my camera it seems. I had to open it up and reset the bios by taking out the bios battery and putting it back in. I guess Canon fixes the problem for free. But I thought I was up to the task.

Thanks to this webpage!

CANON Powershot S400 “memory error” fix » PINOYHACK.COM

Now, I just hope it's not the bios battery going dead. It's kind of uncommon I guess.

Hmm.. I have this problem with my Nikon D70, but it's because the contacts of the reader are oxidised (at least I think they are!).

I just have to keep reinserting the card until it reads properly.

Tried to use a cleaner spray? "aka brake cleaner"? Works good to clean contacts. And completly evaporates.

Hmm... Would that work? It's just alcohol, right?

I don't think it's achohol. Probably pure CFC.

But you get it from your car stuff place. (brake cleaner).

edit: This stuff Find Brakleen Break Parts Cleaner, 19 Oz and other Shop Equipment at Aubuchon Hardware

And no cfc. Take that global warming!

@ Trinity, glad to hear you solved the problem!

I always use a USB cable connection to transfer photos from my camera nowadays to be on the safe side.
