I've slowed down my folding as well. I only let my client run at 20%. Power saving is so much more appealing heheh

With the GPU2 client though you can do a lot for the folding community compared to the CPU clients. Video cards (Nvidia) > CPU by a lot
If you compare power consumption per WU done, the Nvidia video card might be better.

Plus, they build quite a lot of redundancies into the distributed computing system. There would probably be many cases of the proteins being folded the same way... or in the case of SETI, several PCs analyzing the same patch of the sky.

This means that while distributed computing gives researchers a lot of free computing power, it is actually quite inefficient and wasteful of computing power.

It's more appealing when ATI and Nvidia are optimising power consumption by reducing voltage and clockspeed like the Intel/AMD. Although GT200 is extremely power hungry, I like their idle consumption.

Yeah, the trend is for GPUs to adopt the same kind of fine and coarse voltage and clock gating to minimize power consumption according to the load.

I think that is a good trend and apparent on the G94 GPU on the 96xx series. This card uses less power than my old X1950 lol

I don't think G94 supports power optimization. It's just that G94 is a cool chip to begin with.

hybrid power is the best power saving feature by far. i can literally shut the GX2 power sucker off when on desktop. too bad it's not available on Intel platform. booo!!

True but the same type of thinking as Zuephok and Adrian mentioned. Three or 4 years ago would we be undervolting CPU's to reach stable O/C's?
