Samsung offers two lines of desktop hard disk drives - the high-performance Spinpoint F line, and the eco-friendly EcoGreen line.

The main difference between the two lines is the spindle speed. The Spinpoint F drives have a spindle speed of 7200 RPM while the EcoGreen drives run at a more sedate 5400 RPM.

The Samsung Spinpoint F line currently consists of the F1 family of drives which are available in capacities ranging from just 80 GB to 1 TB, and the F3 family which only has two members - a 500 GB model and a 1 TB model.

Today, we will be looking at the top model in the Samsung Spinpoint F1 family - the *1 TB Samsung HD103UJ hard disk drive*.

Amidst the many favourable reports of Windows 7 beta, many techies were eager to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7. After all, those who tested it were enthusiastic enough to label it as "the operating system Windows Vista was meant to be".

However, it appears that even experienced techies can expect to hit some road bumps on their way to installing Windows 7. Let's see what some of our techies experienced...

If you were impressed with the performance of the 5400 RPM *Western Digital Scorpio (http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=538&pgno=0)*, you will be astounded by the "higher-end" Western Digital Scorpio Black.

Running with a higher spindle speed of 7,200 RPM and boasting twice the cache of a Scorpio, the Scorpio Black represents the epitome of Western Digital mobile hard disk drive technology.

We had the opportunity to give their top-of-the-line *320 GB Scorpio Black (http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=649)* for a test drive and we were most impressed with its performance.

Not only did it deliver a large storage capacity, it also delivered excellent results in our benchmarks. In fact, it had the same platter-to-buffer transfer rates as the 500 GB Western Digital Caviar GP desktop hard disk drive!
