Default CoD2?

Many of you have mentioned Call of Duty 2.
How good is it, really?
I've played the demo, and found the game engine, sound and graphics to be satisfactory. What bothered me was the scenario design! A very straightforward "connect the dots" mission that could only be solved in one way using the only available one route with several "backtrack obstacles".
Minimal room for squad tactics, at least only one option available, and absolutely no room for platoon tactics.

I want more freedom to plan my battle and pick what routes to use. Not being constantly stopped by doors and windows that can't be forced open or barricades that can't be climbed.

How are the full game scenarios compared to this?

Cheers
Olle

COD2 doesn't require thinking. That's what I like about these games. Makes me feel that I'm not playing the game at all. And yes, the scenarios are fixed.

Nothing for me then!
Thanks for clearing that up!

I honestly think you are playing the wrong gerne. I have not seen a non-scripted FPS games before. ALL the recent FPS games I've played are scripted somehow. All you need to do is shoot and kill.

First; I usually don't play FPS, but think it's nice to keep in touch with the development of such games.
Second; I don't mind having scripted scenarios (objectives and bot activities). It's the total lack of tactical options available for me that I think sucks in this game.
I've for example also tested the SWAT4 demo, which provide me with a comparatively large range of tactical options;
- What equipment should my teams carry, lethal or less lethal?
- Which point of entry should we use? Roof or garage.
- Which route do we take through the building?
- What tactics should we employ when entering a new room? Sting, bang or just enter?
- Should all move together, or should I leave one team trailing to cover the rear?

In CoD the only options available seem to be;
- Which of the weapons I carry should I use right now?
- What posture should I have right now?
- Should I run, walk or crawl?
- Should I replace any weapon by picking up another?
* No route planning possible (only one route available).
* No squad tactics available. The bots move as they see fit no matter what I do. Sometimes they help me a bit though...

Cheers
Olle

Yup, that's the exact reason why I said you are playing the wrong gerne.

It is the same for almost all the FPS games I've played recently, except for the choice of weapon, you can carry all of them in some games!

In your previous post it seems like you put the emphasis on the fact that they're scripted, which to me is not a problem.

Take Steel Beasts, for example. That's very close to a FPS, and the "AI" is limited to a tacAI that only let bot-equivalents try to follow any orders they're given, and if not given any orders just hang around at the spot and try to survive while putting up a fight should an opportunity present itself.
All orders have to be scripted or given by a player.

Cheers
Olle

I've tried that demo too, and I did neither like that game engine nor the game concept:
Pseudo realism. Looks like real stuff (close up, at normal combat ranges you can't see anything) but behaves totally different.

Cheers
