The last true Space sim I played was Freespace 2, damn i even bought the MS force feedback joystick just for that. Now it sits quietly in my cabinet collecting dust.

I have, I'm not real sure why it was so badly reviewed. My only real gripe about the game is you had to follow the storyline to unlock better weapons.

Freelancer was a good game except that it only support mouse

Felt more like an arcade than space sim.

Freelancer is interesting, the controls need some getting used to.
The only thing that bothers me right now is the endless spawning of pirates when you hang around your mission nav point after completing the mission....

Heh, I would call that free money, as the pirates are very easy to destroy, then you can salvage\sell.

Yeah, that would be great too but no when the pirate spawn with homing missiles. Can't even salvage in peace.

using the keyboard you can salvage very fast, don't even need to slow down. Once your ready jump, the missiles that can knock you out of the jump are fairly easy to avoid.
