Default Discworld Dinosaur

I love the original "Discworld" PC game and want to share it with my kids, but I am having major problems finding a way to get it to run on WIN XP and have the sound work in it. I have tried VDM sound and something else that I can't remember the name of and they don't work (either that or I haven't got the correct settings and the websites I got them from don't help much). Is anybody able to help me ? It would be much appreciated.

You might give dosbox a whirl if you have not already. doxbox link

Now as dosbox is a console app, you may want to grab a windows frontend for it to make it a little easier to use. you can find these on the website above by clicking the the downloads link. I use D-Fend, but most of the frontends they have, work just as well.

Oh and discworld is awesome!

ok - found the cd, but now I am TOTALLY lost... I installed both dosbox and d-Fend. Told D-Fend where to find dosbox, but now I am having trouble finding out how to tell d-fend how to run Discworld. What is the GAME EXE (and where do I find it) and what is the SETUP EXE ? It has been so long, in the main DIR there is a DISCWLD DIR, a DISC.BAT and a DWU.exe, in the DISCWLD DIR there is a DWB.exe and a DWU.exe..... (do I let the game install itself or do I let dosbox/d-fend do that for me ?) Yikes !

*edit*

didn't see your post.

game.exe would be the file you use the start the game.

setup.exe is the file that installs the game.

if the game does not install normally (for dos games sound card detection is a problem) you would use the second option.

If I remember correctly you in dos you would normally run the batch file (disc.bat) to start the game, if you open that in notepad you can read it and see which *.exe file it runs. I think it's DWU.exe in the main directory.
