Actually, its not too bad. Usually the buttons are a bit slanted (the curve that is).

i'd prefer the control pad. i did have blisters too bak in the days but after i went hyper on marvel vs capcom on ps1. my hands became 'immune' to blisters from playing street fighter.

and now i can play as long as i want without my fingers hurting

Yeah I played KoF a lot on PS1 (using D-Pad) but still, couldn't beat the controls on the coin-op arcade machines that I would frequent. I played a lot of Marvel vs Capcom in the arcades as well.

I still have no idea why Balrog, M Bison and Vega characters are different from the normal and Japanese versions.

Mainly because of M. Bison (Balrog in US), the character had too much similarity to Mike Tyson. Capcom worried that they might get sued by M. Tyson, so they rearranged the name.
