They may seem simple and many people will have many ideas, but it's going to be tough to nurse the US economy back to health AND finish the job in Iraq and Afghanistan. IMHO, the US will have to work harder on winning the hearts and minds of the local population. That will help them win the war and avoid a Vietnam. They should look into how the Brits broke the back of Communists here in the 50s - Malayan Emergency - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. As for immigration, I'm not sure if the US government really "wants" to solve the issue. According to a documentary I saw, it appears that the US government is quite happy to have an illegal workforce that is cheap, contribute to the economy and yet need not be accorded any rights.
