Default Onboard stuff...

I have finally revived my AthlonXP 2400+ PC and I put another 256MB stick of DDR RAM.

The only problem is this PC couldn't get along with ANY of my AGP cards (y'see VPU recover) so I let it to use the onboard video and sound.

I'm just curious - are these onboard video capable of doing DVD video? And will they support OpenGL or Direct3D - just for these older generation games?

And the onboard sound - they have all the 6.1 channels and other fancy stuff like that - have you tried using onboard sound before? I just love to hear about your experience. Hee heh...

i'm using onboard sound with a 2.1 speaker set.

don't feel like spending RM300 for a XFi Xtreme just for better sound... but maybe if the Fatality or Platinium edition drop in price would consider.. as the XRAM would help with better gaming speeds...

I see.

Are these sound/graphics processor redundant? Or are they taking a part of the processor's speed? I heard that some of these onboard Graphics is taking at least 10% of the overall performance. Or is it just a myth?

if you got another 256Mb of ram it should be ok to watch DVD.. i've tried with my friends pc with a 256Mb of ram the DVD looks like a little bit like a slide show.. and not to forget to install the on board graphic driver.. (try to find the latest version).. or else browsing the windows also like a slide show..

yes, your right. onboard sound and even sound cards will take a bit of your processing power... only the X-Fi soundcards with XRAM will help elevate that and improve on your gaming / processing speed (up to 15% - 40%).
