Default SATA + IDE incompatible?

This is my first post here, so hi to everyone.
Here goes my problem:
I have a new PC with GIGABYTE K8NMf-9 and AMD 3200+ with a 250GB SATA HDD. I partitioned the SATA HDD with the Gentoo Live CD and then installed Win XP on the first partition ( I will later install Gentoo for dual boot).
I also created a 160GB partition for data, formated as ext3.
I installed the EXT2IFS driver to access the ext3 partition from XP. I chose this solution so that I can share the data partition between the 2 OS.
Today I tried to add a 160GB IDE disk formated as FAT32 and full of files, but

no matter what configuration I tried the ext3 partition is inaccessible. It is either reported as "Unformatted" or there is a "?" on the disk in the explorer and the drive is not assigned a letter.

Does anyone have any ideas. I have tried IDE 1 master/slave, IDE 2 master/slave but nothing works. The IDE is working properly in all configurations.
regards,
flawless

It sounds like XP does not recognise the partition. I doubt that there's an incompatibility problem between SATA or IDE as I've tried such configuration before.

Sounds like a problem with the EXT2IFS driver.
