I personally think it's a good thing. Dell definetly needs to redo their top-end name.

If the deal goes through, Dell will now have reason to supply AMD based machines.

Yeah, it's confirmed... all is done. Alienware will be a unit of Dell. But no change of name, etc. Maybe technical support side and also Alienware's CEO, Nelson Gonzalez, will report directly to Dell's Jim Schneider, Dell's Chief Financial Officer.
