humm i dont know how other ppl use their external usb HD. Im been using aluminium external HD for a long time nothing happen to my HD. Ofcourse , when im not using it i will shut it down.

I've gone almost 1 week+ with my external USB HDD plugging onto the USB port. *touch wood* In the end, I unplug it coz not using it. It's officially my pink external USB drive until I can find time to burn everything out.

Normally external USB drive enclosure for notebook hdd has no fan right?

well in my point of view... external hd just for backup ...so i wont let it on day and night. When i need to backup, i turn it on after that just let it off. Most of the external HD has no fans on it unless u are using mobile rack or big size external encloser. Im using 2.5" external drive self power ..using 5400 rpm laptop HD which is goood for me to take it everywhere i wan
