Default Router problems

I hav this problem... after a few moments of using my laptop to online.. the wireless connection on my router disappears... the light of the WLAN disappears.. I tried restarting the router and it comes on again.. then after a few moments of using my laptop.. the WLAN light disappears and the whole wireless connection disappears.. wat puzzled me is tat when I look for wireless connection.. its there but I cant connect.. I hav to restart the router.. it happens only on my laptop which I reformated few weeks ago.. before this I nvr experience such a problem..

Then I changed to LAN on my laptop... I connect to my router and after a few moments.. suddenly my laptop doesnt receive any data from the router... I tried taking the LAN cable out and putting it back again and then it shows the limited connection thingy...

I need help here... its frustrating.. my desktop doesnt seem to give me this kind of problem... Im using a D-Link router and gigabyte AP...

i think maybe because your networkcard will auto turn off when u are not using it ?

since before that u have no experience of this incident, i will try to turn off the auto shut down to save energy which is located under "power management" .

Hmm.. Try fixing the transfer rate of the LAN to 100mbps instead of Auto. You can also do the same with the WiFi card.

NeoS, could you let us know the distance between your WiFi device and your WiFi router?

anyway by your post, it could be that the router is having problems already.

its about 3-4 meters away... I use to play at the same distance before I reformatted my comp.. it has no problem.. Ive tried sitting next to the router.. but the problem still appears...

having problems? but my desktop doesnt show a single problem with my router... I could online with my desktop using wireless for many many hours.. I just remembered.. before I update SP2 on my win XP after reformatting.. I still could connect for long hours... but after I update SP2.. I can online a few minutes and then i have to restart the router again... now its even worse.. not even 5 mins I have to restart the router ady... hmm.. anymore suggestion? shall try what Adrian suggested.. thx...

Hmm.. Regarding the problem's correlation with SP2, are all your PCs using Windows XP SP2?

Does your notebook detect any other Wifi access points aroung your area?

If there are a few using the same channel, it can cause inteferences and dropped connections.
