Hehe... 100 degrees? Did it started frying away??

I made a serious big mistake - I don't need to double check the processor orientation.

I already put the processor in this way and only THIS orientation work. It's already correct when the processor fits in directly into the socket.

My itchy hands made me took out the Heatsink again, and double-checked. Still correct. So I put back the heatsink but in a different orientation - this time the cam-lever is facing the chipset, not the PSU.

Quote:
Before (the square thing is Heatsink):
+ <---Lever
+|======|
+|======|
|======|

After (when I replace back the HS)
Lever--->+
|======|+
|======|+
|======|
I mean, the thermal-interface-thingy seal is already broken when I took the heatsink out, but I put it back again in a different position. The heatsink is secured firmly and fit snugly but just made a turn-around. Will it harm the processor?

I don't know - the temps are always 37~45 degrees. One time it reached 50 but dunno why suddenly it sprang back to 43 degrees. I afraid I could be frying some components there.

Help me dispell my doubts - for the last time.

Why are you guys so worried about the temperature...

I wouldn't care a thing about the temperature unless I'm getting crashes... CPU are designed to withstand extremely high temperatures. You guys are way too paranoid by those CPU burning video clips. Those processors reached more than 200C...

Ah, thanks for your advice man.

I slightly squished the thermal interface material a little bit when I took it out the heatsink and put it back.

Initially the temps are around 37 degrees when I first turned it on, but it shot up to 50 degrees (max I think?) when WinXP installs (the 1st reboot I go and check the HW monitor) but suddenly spring back into 43 degrees. Funny eh?

Now I have been testing it, idle, and it's only around 39~41 degrees. Maybe the thermal interface material needs to adjust itself, am I right?

Hmm... maybe.

But don't worry... unless your system fails to start or suddenly slows down extremely...

I still remembered I asked my colleague why got sound one... as I've never heard of the overheat alarm before. He said overheat and went and removed the heatsink. He accidently touched the heatsink pipe... LOL!!!!!

I seroiusly doubt MSI's sensor chip..
I had a NEO2 Platinum (in fact i'm still using it ) with the same exact problem...
The temperature fluctuates like +-8 degrees..
I mounted a CM Hyper48+ on it and the result was same as the stock cooler
Each time i restart the results are different..sometime idling at 40 and sometime 45

That's exactly why onboard monitoring will NEVER be accurate.
