Reputation: 852 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rep Power: 14 | I just ripped out my MSI KM4M board out of my old comp and replaced with a MSI K8MM-V board. I fitted the Sempron processor, heatsink and a stick of RAM inside the comp. I double-checked everything. It looks successful - but when I turned it on - no power. Nothing comes out. No display whatsoever. Looks dead. My PSU's working fine before I put my K8MM-V inside. ANy idea what happened? ![]()

I'd unplug everything, put in a piece of RAM, and the graphics card if it doesn't have onboard, then start it. If it still doesn't start. Check the CPU, see whether it's in place or not. Your PSU not running?

Reputation: 852 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rep Power: 14 | My PSU is running before that. I know it's running, and even I swapped PSUs I still couldn't make the whole thing running. The power cables are in place. I put the 4 pin and the 12 pins together as well. I suspect my CPU placement is upside down. I mean, the gold arrow is facing the wrong direction. But I doublechecked everything before putting the heatsink - I'm sure I followed the little arrow on the board. But now even I couldn't know how to remove the heatsink - it's too hard... and I couldn't check the CPU location anymore whether it's the right direction or not.. How to get around to removing it? I hope there's a very quick reply. P.s: I have one stick of ram and no graphics card. edit: Should I use a big MAGNETIC screwdriver? to pull out the lug from the clip?

That will make the heatsink come off. Try booting like this, remove all unecessary things (like all optical drivers, sound cards etc) and try booting up. Maybe the mobo needs an updated BIOS too... ![]()

Reputation: 852 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rep Power: 14 | Craps. I think my m/board is very dead. So very dead it seems. I tried another PSU but it couldn't work as well. So I put back my old Athlon Xp board with my PSU and the fan on my Athlon XP is spinning and it's alive! But not on the shiny brand new K8MM-V. I know that the processor is fine. (Dang it, I took out the heatsink, and broke the seal [thermal interface] and put it back, dunno whether will overheat or not!!!) ![]() edit: The CPU fan isn't running at all. And this is very scary.

Reputation: 852 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rep Power: 14 | OooooooooooooOOooo... Finally got it started. The silly CLR CMOS jumper is in reset position.... I read the manual book, but it seems that the book has some sort of printing error. The CLR CMOS jumper SHOULD be in 2-3 position, but it said 1-2. So I followed 1-2 all the time and I got myself so so annoyed until I took the risk to start it by opposite direction. Anyway thanks for your help. But I just took out the heatsink once and put it back, the thermal seal is a little bit ripped off, but it's still intact. Will it hurt the processor?
