For a cheap pair of awesome earbuds, you could try 2 of these brands.

OVC's in canal earbuds, most people say they're pretty good.
Altec Lancing's IEM-716, which is made OEM by Etymotic Reseach.

For eargasmic headphones/earphones at awesome prices try these.

Sennheiser's PX100
Koss KSC-75
AKG-271
Sennheirser's HD-201

all great phones for the price and they do well without any fancy schmancy amps.

Yup these are the same OEM as the OVC TC20, which I mentioned in my post above.

I have a pair of Koss KSC-75 and have listened to the PX100 before. Sound signature of the latter was too dark for my liking.

I heard that the IM716 would improve quite significantly with an amp though.

IIRC they aren't really based off the S version of the Etymotics, so they should perform rather decently without an amp. The only the thing as with all Etys is that you'll need so some time to learn the fitting skills required to get the best out of the sound. Yeah, you heard me right lol, you actually need a sibilance of skill to put these suckers in

I was thinking to buy a new headphone because my current one is not so comfortable after prolonged use but meh... no $$, I guess I'll just bear with it.

I like the one that Chai is using

Imma gonna get a pair of ATH-W5000s or an AKG1000 if this CNY's harvest is good lol. Or by the very least a Grado SR325 or an AKG701 for my desktop setup, my portable setup on the other hand is running off another fund lol. The Senns i use are nice, but i guess i'd like a little more variety in the sound department

WAH, you must get some really thick ang pows
Or do you mean "harvest" from gambling

I read that the Grado 325i is quite bright though, might be too much of a contrast from your Senns. A lot of people on Head-Fi seem to prefer the SR-225 over it especially given the lower price tag.

Anyway I'm really enjoying my CrossRoads earphones, it felt like I had their drumset in my head when I was listening to the White Stripes. Fantastic
