Not only it's not a good idea, you are not saving much by not getting a new PSU. IBM desktop? I haven't heard or seen an IBM desktop for a very long time!

Well my company still has some IBM P4s, It's standard ATX design...

Yeah you need to tell at least how old or the model no.

with all those power hungry hardware devices out there today, you probably would HAVE to upgrade your PSU....

The wise thing to do is to forget about the old computer and go for a whole new setup...if the old one is still working, leave it there to serve you with its last ounce of energy
never save money from power supply..it might even cost you more..burned hardware etc...if you are not a very high end user you can actually get many cheap and decent hardwares.. AMD is also announcing its massive price drop so you might want to wait to get one

I guess the only reason why u might wanna keep the old chassis is if u're nostalgic over the IBM desktop's casing. If so, u can always replace the PSU if there's worries over that one. Probly just need a hammer, superglue, putty, duct tape to make sure that everything fits nicely

I doubt so. These machines often have customised layout with customised PSU. I honestly doubt they will fit, even with superglues.
