i remove / uninstall / delete all the USB controllers, even till my mouse not moving, restarting my PC (windows auto install the usb controllers again) and plug in my thumb drive.

windows still detect it as unknown device.

Hmm... so now the problem is your USB ports can't detect ALL types of USB thumb drive?

My suggestion: Go find a generic Windows XP thumb drive driver, and install it.

On another note, have you tried installing the mobo driver? I think as the last resort, you'll have to try to repair your Windows using the OS cd and pray, like this -->

i believe this problem is as Falcone has said, unplugging the thumb drive without safely disabling it first. somehow whenever a thumb drive is plugged-in, windows will automatically assign the driver for it, in this case..a corrupt driver me thinks.

i've only been able to find win98 usb drivers, if anyone has winxp usb drivers for ANY thumb drive, i'm willing to try them out.

i do not have the mobo drivers as this is my work computer, thus does not belong to me.
