IDE - SATA Cables????

do they exist. i search but it keeps bringing up converter adapters. and those cost alot. so are there just cables that does the conversion on just the cable.

Nope they don't exist. If there are such thing I will definitely get one for my older hard drives and optical drives

Nope. You need a converter like the ABIT Serillel.

Any benefits with using such converters? All I can think of is you can use a slightly smaller serial cable.

If you are using one of those ICH7 based motherboard, you will probably need that.

I must have missed something, why would you need it for ICH7 based MB?

There's no native PATA support on ICH7.

According to Intel's datasheets for the southbridge, it has native support for PATA, it's just limited to one channel.

Hmm...maybe I remembered wrongly, I think Intel is dumping the PATA support. I forgot with controller it was. Maybe for ICH8?
