Question I dunno what's up, Bios problem maybe?

i built a pc about 2 years ago and it's been running great. the mobo is asus a7n8x deluxe, with 1.5gb of corsair xms ram cs2 3200. the gpu is nvidia 6600gt, processor is a barton xp+2800 oc to 3200+/ 2.2 ghz.
One night i heard the fans being a little loud and i just cut the pc off via the holding the power button, it was late and my first year of college so i didn't think it would do anything.
but the next day when i tried to boot up, i couldn't get any bios response, the monitor stays in standby, the hdd led is on but nothing happens no video no beeps nothing.
please help.
thanks

I don't think it's a BIOS problem.

You might want to take a look inside and see if the CPU fan's running.

ya the fan for the cpu is running, but one of them does seem to be making a diff. sound like a very low whizzing noise. I think it may be the cpu one.
I found a guide on my mobo and said that the ram i got could have problems if the bios hasn't been updated, and i haven't updated as of yet, going to do so if i can get it to boot.

do you think the cmos battery might have died? because sometimes the mobo was shipped with a low voltage battery

Nah, it's unlikely to be the CMOS battery. The low voltage nature has nothing to do with its longevity. In any case, the system would still have booted up, albeit with a warning while initializing the BIOS.

There's only one fan that's actually cooling the heatsink on the CPU. Which fan are you referring to?

Yes, it could be the RAM too. Try reseating them. But it's unlikely to be a BIOS problem since it worked earlier.

i'm referring to the fan ontop of the heat sink, it's the one that sounds a little different (whizzing) however it's still blowing fine, i got the themaltake tsunami dream tower and it has a fan on the front, back, and side window and all those are running fine as well.
how can i reset the memory? should i just take each piece out? ( 3 sticks @ 512 each, also it's the corsair xms (black) c2 3200 400mhz).

Oh, the case fans are really not that critical. The most important is that fan on top of the CPU heatsink.

Reseating the memory modules means you take out the modules and reseat them (put them back).

If that doesn't work, try resetting the BIOS by continuously pressing the Insert key when you start up the system.

ok i will try the to reset the ram and the bios reset. do you think i can do the bios reset eventhough there aren't any beeps or any video support? it's like the pc is in a coma, nothing but power is up, there is no brain activity

Edit: i tried to reset the memory, and i tried to reset my cmos battery. still nothing.

i hit the power supply switch on the back to reset it and it ran for a bit, then it restarted and did the same thing with no bios response.
you think the ps might be dying?

PSU normally wouldn't die like that. My first suspicion is CPU or motherboard. Most likely motherboard.

i think i found the problem, i got 3 sticks of corsair xms ram, i tried booting with one and then 2 sticks in dual channel and ran 3dmark just to see if it would hold up against the pressure, it seems to me something has gone haywire on the 3rd ram chip.
think i can rma or something?
