Your Win2k system should be able to see your WinXP drive.

But before you backup your drive, why not try to duplicate the stop message, take a picture of it and post it here.

Don't use the recovery option.

Use the normal option like how you install a fresh windows, until there's an option to press "R" to repair windows.

Here's a couple of images of the blue screen. I'll try the repair again.

It ran throught this step just fine until it rebooted and went back to the installation screen where devices are initiated. About 2/3 of the way throught that step it always comes up to the blue screen and I'm back in the loop again.

Yup... from my vast experience with BSOD (as in all my projects so far )... it's probably RAM or HDD.

I have (2) 1 GB ram chips so I took one out at a time and I got the same error every time. Is that enough of a test to rule out the ram? Should I now put the hard drive in my 2K computer, backup the data and then format it and try to reinstall XP?

I don't think that's enough to rule out the RAM.. coz what if in the unluckiest situation, both RAMs are spoilt.

Hmm... let's leave it at that. I think you should save time by backing up your data and do a clean format/install.

I took out the drive and put it in my Win 2K system. I was able to back up all files but before I put it back in the new system I have a couple of questions.

The hd is a 250 GB Hitachi and I had partioned it when I installed XP, a 20 GB partition for the OS and main programs with the rest devoted to secondary programs and storage. When I formatted the drive in the 2K system I deleted the second partition and in Computer Management the drive shows up as a 128.00 GB dynamic drive. Did I screw something up or when I put it back in the new system and install XP the size will match? Should I partition it like I did the first time or does anyone have a better suggestion?

Thanks,
Millertime

Here's an update and maybe the original cause of the problem.

Removed HD and backed up the data on my Win 2K system then formated the drive. Put the HD back in my new system and reinstalled XP and did all the XP updates. Installed McAfee and Spy Sweeper. I installed the Asus MB drivers and latest nVidia drivers. So far so good so I let run for a few hours and messed around a little on the internet. Still running along nicely so I added Firfox and Thunderbird without any problems. Let it run overnight and everything was still smooth so I added Acronis True Image, cleaned up temp files and such then did a system backup. Everything is still going good so I added Quicken and finally got caught up on that mess. After a few more hours everthing is still going good so I added iTunes (gotta have my music) and installed the software that came with my Creative X-FI card. A couple hours late and my original problems came back!! I decided to uninstall the iTunes and Creative then reinstall one at a time. When I went to uninstall the Creative software I noticed that the space it used was 893MB, that's out of control. After doing a little browsing about Creative it sounds like a number of people have experienced the same problems I've been having. After a couple more hours of problem free usage I'll reinstall iTunes. If that works then I'll probably give up on my sound card and use the built-in Realtek Audio on my MB.

Thanks for everyones patience and help.
