Default Even the guy's at CNET couldn't help me.

Ok... This techy built my Grandpas computer. He turned out to be a bad deed and we lost contact with him. A couple of days ago, while trying to turn on the computer it would turn on and start beeping long beeps every 8 seconds without stopping. I opened the case. The CPU fan is working fine and the other fans as well. I switched the CMOS battery, Took out the RAM stick ( only one) cleaned it and put it back, switched the keyboard but nothing! The screen says CHECK SIGNAL CABLE, the PC turns itself turns off but there seems to be no connection between the PC and the screen... the PC just beeps and beeps and beeps. I tried looking for a logo or sticker on the motherboard but found nothing. We got no documantion with the PC. The video card, sound card are built on the motherboard. The PC is used just for the web and playing FreeCell... So I doubt its a case of CPU overheating. Also because the fans work but it just beeps.

Any help would be great,
Thanks!

Just because the video card is fried I have to get a new motherboard? I just want to be 100% sure before I go out and buy a new motherboard that I did all that could be done.

if it's just long beeps.. could be the memory module not fixed properly (or worse, dead memory module)

Try taking it out, give the contacts a rub, and plug it back it again.

Default Me again!

Hey guys/gals...
The problem was a dead RAM stick... it runs fine now!
The new problem is I'm trying to enter a website, but I get " This page cannot be displayed...." error. I've done everything microsoft told me but nothing! The website works at other computers in my network so it seems to be a problem only with my PC... What do I do?

Thanks!

Hmmm does the PC has the right network settings? Can you do a "ipconfig /all" to make sure it has the gateway settings and IP all right?
