Wow.. That's really quite serious.

It's really odd how the short circuit occured and burnt the board. I don't see anything that could have caused it.

Me, too.
The spacer was also burnt, the screw wasn't.
Well, I'll never know for sure. ^^

Hmm.. Are you referring to the metal spacer? Or those cardboard rings?

The metal one.
But I don't think it touched some contacts,
cleaned it and using it with the new mobo
as well and no prob at all.

It looks like you just got a slight burn at the hole. Almost like smoke went all over the place... Is the bottom able to be wiped off clean? Either way, as others have said, you are lucky.
