Connected all the stuff, turned it on, and just some secs later smoke came out from one of the bottom holes. Turned it off, opened it up and tried to check what's the cause of this. Looks like the screw at the bottom was somehow sitting too tight, connecting the mobo with the placeholder in the back. Removed the screw, turned it on again, no smoke, all running fine. Nothing damaged at all ... at least it looks like that. So could be a screw somehow shortcutting with the placeholder in the back be the cause of "buring" the board and furthermore, now that there's no prob anymore is there a damage to components by any chance? Thnx in advance.

Well, the screws are supposed to connect to the metal placeholders to provide a venue for static to discharge. I don't think screwing in too deeply will cause any problems... unless it forces the solder points on the motherboard to come in contact with the case. But that should cause a short circuit... and shut down the board.

Looks like the mobo-screws coming with the case are bigger than usual, not much, but they are. It won't be a prob with the rest of the screwholes, but the one in the bottom-left is surrounded by resistors, so I think it (the screw) touched one of those. On both the back and front of the mobo the PCB is burnt just around this one screwhole, but luckily not elsewhere (chips and stuff are all ok). Just removed the placeholder to make sure nothing else will happen ... running fine and smooth. First time this ever happened to me. *pewh* No risk - no fun. But still I'll switch this mobo with a different one soon. PS: Rig-pics will follow soon (bragging-corner).

But it's not the PC I was talking about in this thread, the "hot" is just one of some testbeds (pics in the bragging-corner) ... Maybe I call it "Afterburner" now. PS: I would never switch case on the workstation, Dell enclosures are imo absolutely great.
