Need a soundcard...

I'm facing this problem here where the Soundmax won't start after driver installation on my P5B-E Plus.

I've tried quite a few installation methods and tinkering with the BIOS but to no avail. EVen the bundled drivers cd doesn't solve the problem.

I'm looking for a soundcard to solve this problem. Will be using this sound card for casual listening and movies. So, X-Fi would be out of the question.

Is the Sound Blaster Audigy Value 7.1 good? Is it better than the onboard Soundmax on the ASUS P5B-E?

Well, this card is the cheapest decent card at the nearest shop.

Please advise. Thanks.

I think the mobo sound featues is good enough, dun see much different compare with Sound Blaster Audigy Value 7.1

I am outdate for some time correct me if i am wrong

If the drivers installation doesn't have problem and the audio can start without problem, I don't see me buying a soundcard at all.

Thanks for the opinion. Hmm... one more thing, if I don't plug in the speakers, will the audio driver fail to start?

Coz all this while, I didn't plug in speakers at all, just install drivers only. But should be same what..

Sounds like faulty motherboard. I don't have the same problem on the testbed.

I dun think so if you din plug in the speaker the audio driver fail to start...no related at all...if yes then everytime u swap your headphone and speaker that time need to install driver again n again...

Yeah, that's what I told him. Weird problem.

The motherboard is brand-new though...

Yup, it's in device manager. Enabled in BIOS. I tried changing the front panel audio from HD to AC97 also same.

Yeah... problem is it's brand-new. All I did was install WinXP Pro and then install drivers. Then BAM! Device failed to start. I tried to uninstall it and update it through the device manager, also same.

Uninstall again, install the KB888111 first then update also same.

Format and install a fresh WinXP Pro and use the bundled drivers cd and used it's InstallAll function, also same. WTF?

I even flashed the BIOS to 0504, also same.
