Default Problem with DVD ROM Drive

my hard disk and a cd r/w drive is connected to primary IDE channel. now, i added a dvd rom drive and connected it to secondary IDE channel. the dvd rom is set to secondary master. my win xp easily detected the dvd drive and automatically install it. everything looks perfectly fine, the lights on the dvd is flashing but it always giving me a message "no disc inserted" or "pls. insert a disc". can you help me on this? thanks.

you mean when you insert a disc and the lights on the dvd drive keeps on flashing when it tries to read it? if that is the case then it might be due to incompatible disc or the disc is scratched and the drive cant read it properly.

What's the model of your DVD-Rom and what CD/DVD media are giving you this error?

Could be a problem with the cable. Try changing the cable.

Newer CD/DVD readers are much better nowadays. And once you find a media that works with your drive, you stick with it! or you just take good media like Verbatim

Some of those problems might be corrected with the flashing of the drive's firmware.
