There's no such thing as Master or Slave for SATA devices. Each port can only support a single drive.

Yeah, that's a great idea. Even CD-ROM drives have a problem with Master / Slave. These days, I prefer to simply use Cable Select, if I cannot give each IDE drive its own cable / IDE channel.

usually, the middle connector is for slave, the top connector is for master, by doing so, manually selected master/slave will not have problem.

Actually, you still have to select Cable Select for that. If you set Master or Slave, the cable connector positioning does not matter.
