I prefer a desktop. The desktop was my preferred gaming system, but lately the expense of keeping up with the minimum specs for games is exceeding my budget.

Unlike an average joe, I definitely prefer desktop over notebook for far too many reasons.

1. It's far more powerful
2. It's upgradable
3. It's very customizable, up to 30" monitor if you want
4. Full size keyboard and mouse
5. Gaming
6. Cheaper if you want the equivalent specs for both

Desktops these days are more like workstations, powerhouse that serves a specific purpose, like graphics designing, gaming, etc. While I see the usefulness of a notebook, but I still don't really need one.

What about you?
I can't imagine using the single + low resolution screen to do my work I don't really mind the small screen size. Plus I can't stand the small keyboard, typos non stop but I guess it's just a matter of getting use to it...

It is a matter of getting used to it. When I started on a notebook, I kept typing typos... but eventually, got used to it. Still typing out typos when I lack sleep though. I guess there's a limit to what practice can do!

But frankly speaking, a notebook + a large LCD monitor = pseudo-desktop!!

Plus, with a notebook, you need never worry about power cuts or brown-outs. Also, I can power down and get out of the house with my notebook (and all my work) in just 10 minutes.

That's one way, actually half only. The CPU, graphics card will never match desktop, that's the main reason why I'm still using desktop.

One way? Not sure what you mean.

But yeah, the CPU and graphics card definitely cannot come close to desktop-level of performance... and no matter what they claim (MXM), they are not really upgradable (too expensive, too hard to source).

Still, when I plug my laptop to the LCD monitor - SWEETNESS!!!

Oh yeah, I hate using the touch pad. I'm a mouse-type so I bring a mouse and mouse pad with me wherever I go!

Yeah, they have those processors and high-end GPUs... but those processors and high-end GPUs cannot match the desktop versions. They generally run at lower clock speeds.

Hmm, true.. But then, won't it be more than enough for normal usage? Gaming wise should be quite ok right?

i think most people who just use the computer to surf or chat would prefer the laptop, this covers the majority of modern women, working and studying. As for men, most the younger generation are hooked up with gaming, so desktop most probably for the men.

One way of making notebooks more desktop-like, but in fact it's just half way there, because you can never make CPU and graphics card as powerful as desktop counterparts.
