Arrow Video editing computer

Looking to build a video editing computer to allow me to pull videos off a digital camcorder. No gaming and no overclocking will be done.

Suggestions for a CPU and motherboard would be greatly appreciated. In this situation would, after yesterday's priced decreases, the Q6600 be the best band for the buck or is a dual core more than enough?

Thanks.

For video editing and encoding and the price I think the quad Q6600 would be a better choice than a Duo

It probably depends on the application you use but I think the quad-core would be better along with a good amount of ram (4GB).

So there is no C2D CPU that would be suitable for video editing?

C2D is fast, but not as good as C2Q, for video editing anyway. I'm using a high speed C2D.

As JMMD said it really depends on the application even this E6550 I have runs very well but the quad cores will handle most video stuff better as it is very CPU dependent. Memory is important as well.

If you get up into the E8xxx C2D series your almost into the same price range as the Q6600 thats all
