Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | Hello Tech ARP members. I'm new to the computer world and been looking and searching around the forum for some info. I got this desktop computer compaq presario sr13003wm that i'm using from my friend for free. I know this PC is worthless thats why he gave it to me hahahah. I really dont know to much about computers, i just know the basic stuff. I have some questions that i like to know. 1.Whats is the differents between PCI, PCI-E, PCIx8, PCI-x16, and APG graphic card? 2.This computer has an intergrated graphic card in it and like to get a better card, i dont know what to get? The PCI, PCI-e or the AGP type cards? i check the spec on this comptuer and it say it only has 3 PCI slot and 1 APG slot. Is PCI, PCI-e,PCI-x16,PCI-x8 the same? 3.Can graphic card work wit any mother board? processor? If not can you replace any processor to any mother board? This computer got a worthless processor AMD sempron 3000+ 2.0GHz and ASUS A7V8X-LA mother board. I would like to replace processor but dont know what to get and how to replace it. 4.If all this isn't worth doing, its best i get a new computer? i wouldn't even know what to get tho. I glad i surf the net and found this site...this forum will help me alot. THANKS for the help Tech ARP |

PCI - normally for you to install a hardware devise.. commonm hardware are lan card, usb , sound card PCI-E is divided into 1.PCIx8 2.PCI-x16 those x8 and x16 for you to put a graphic card. x16 speed > x 8 AGP is also a slot for older graphic card. AGP and PCIe are not compatible for each other PCIE offers faster speed than AGP AGP is dead what else?

Reputation: 166 ![]() ![]() Rep Power: 2 | well, hehe, your pc ain't worthless. But parts will cost slightly expensive because it's on older platform (S939[Processor slot] i think ur processor is). Differences of those card? It's like Highway for the graphic card. Currently the fastest is the PCIEX16, followed by PCIEX8 (hmm i think this is usually used in crossfire or sli [Dual graphic cards set up]) then agp then only pci being the slowest (and also extint already |

On CPU I think you asked if you could change the CPU on that mobo. Here is a page with your Mobo specs and looks like it supports up to AthlonXP 3000+ with Barton support. Hope this helps HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - Motherboard Specifications, A7V8X-LA (Kamet 2)

Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! NCIX.com - Canada's Premier Computer Store - Great Technology, Service and Selection. TigerDirect.com - Computers, Computer Parts, Computer Accessories, PC Components, & Electronics are all good places to see pricing and such.. they often sell below recommended retail prices.. I'm sure in the future if you ever decide to upgrade, the people who frequent this forum can help.

- PCI-E slots can be PCIx1 PCIx8 or PCIx16 - PCIx16 is for graphic cards a nd is newest standard - AGP is older standard and is found on old motherboards Quote:
