PC2700 DDR RAM

okay i'm about to buy new ram from play.com

is installing ram as simple as just pushing it in to the slot?

ps is ddr ram compatible with the motherboards up for grabs cos i will have 1GB(2x512) and it'll be a shame if i wasn't able to use it if i did win by any chance. XD

yes.

However pc2700 is pretty old stuff, sure you want to mess with it?

you can get 2gb of ddr2 6400 for the price of 1 gb of that old stuff

Yeah, it's that simple to install. Just push it in until the clips at both ends lock in.

Actually isnt PC2700 (184 pin) just DDR, the boards being given away all use DDR2 (240 pin) memory.

i see. but my current mobo only supports 184pin lol

so i theres no point in me buying DDR2 when i dont have mobo to use it. lol

what about instaling drivers or connecting it to the power supply?

does the ram need to be connected to the power supply? or does it come with a cd to intall drivers or something like you do with graphic cards

the youtube tutorials just show how push in the ram and thats it. dont show other stuff after it.

Miahman , its just plug it in. no drivers and power is supplied thru the MB.

But if you are going to buy DDR memory why not get PC3200/DDR400 memory instead of the PC2700. If you are going to OC you may get better results with the higher rated memory.

Just a thought

Yeah, Rraven is correct. Just plug them in. No need for any driver or power supply.

Well you DO need a powersupply :X

but RAM power is handled through the motherboard rambus directly.

But if you are going to buy DDR memory why not get PC3200/DDR400 memory instead of the PC2700. If you are going to OC you may get better results with the higher rated memory. Just a thought
