Default My turn to need to do some shopping

So I'm sitting here typing away(in response to the PSU thread) with daughter sitting just across from me on her computer and I hear "UHHH, DADDDY????!!!. Turn around to see all that "good old magic smoke" coming out the top of her LCD. Jumped over and hit the main switch on the power strip she uses.

Poor kid is lookin at me like "what did I do?" All i could do was just kinda chuckle at her and make just that statement "You let the magic get out". I'm sure she still thinks I'm about half nuts even after i explained what happened.

Then it hit me she had my Canon SD790 plugged into the USB port on the monitor downloading some pictures. Nah, couldn't be!!

Sure as can be somehow when the PSU let loose in the monitor there was enough current to fry the driver board which the USB wiring just happens to be in a rats nest of wiring with.

Anyone have need of a SD790 shaped paperweight?

Lol no idea if it can be repaired or not, it wont even turn on now.
But further investigation has shown it may have gotten the Video card somewhat also as even just sitting idle in windows it starts artifacting now.

Dang cheap manufacturers using crap parts in their units, That LCD power supply is loaded with Teapo caps every one of them ruptured or blown open

Maybe i can try and ressurrect the driver board and make a new PSU for it, Maybe mod a 17 in lcd into the side of a case with it...

Nope, I'd take a picture of the whole mess but seems I'm in a quandry to do so Never seen anything quite like it.

On this particular LCD (a Proview btw) the AC and the video input enter the housing side by side. I didn't pay much attention to it when we hooked it up. I would have thought that the 2 would be routed 180 degrees out, but not internally they didn't. They actually are rather stuffed in there with no regard to seperation. Looks like a big wad of ramen noodles.

Best I can tell is it appears the first stage of the secondary let loose in a rather violent way . As the PSU board overlaps the driver board for the LCD by approximately 25mm and the 2 boards are only seperated by 10mm. It puts the connector for the video cable almost directly under the secondary area. Bad design work on someones part.

The USB hub header is off the bottom area of the driver board but all the wiring as i said looks like a wad of Ramen, with some of it burnt now..

My lesson, don't buy a Proview even if its for Grandma's E Machine.

Always thought I could catch a flicker in that screen if I wasnt directly looking at it. Guess I should have trusted my instincts.
