http://www.wdc.com/en/library/eide/2579-001037.pdf

this pdf is on about setting harddrives to slave/master/cable selesct.

does that mean i can use one IDE connector cable and one power supply cable to power both.

thanks

Will take a look Bro and will remove the other thread for you as you requested. No worries

EDIT: There is a password on the pdf

Anyway on IDE drives and jumpers a few ways you can set them up.

You can use a single cable and set one drive as Master and one as Slave the Master drive is always the one at the end of the IDE cable. The Slave or secondary drive is the middle connector. You can also do this using CS(Cable Select) the connector the drive is plugged into determines whether it is master or slave same configuration as as above.

Using both IDE channels if you have two you can set 2 drives both as primary and secondary Master OR You can set up to 4 drives in the configurations mentioned above. In all cases each drive does require its own power supply connection.

Hope this helps

nopes, SATA is different. the wire is different.

SATA is point to point, serial communication. Dedicated bus that can go 3Gbps speed thus far. SAS up to 6Gbps.

The above posts by Mike and zy are correct. SATA is a different platform altogether. They are independent of each other which makes them useful for RAID arrays

If you are not sure, unplug the second HDD. Finish installing Windows, replug the 2nd HDD.
