RAM checked since u said booting died at RAM count? Also pull off the HDD see if it pass this test. Boot with minimum hardware then slowly add it in to isolate the problem. If you got another motherboard, try that.

You may get more info as you goole it with the key words Barracudda 7200.11 firmware problem. The issues is getting hotter now.

Yup, this is a known problem. I would avoid Seagate 3.5" if possible, and that includes Maxtor external drives since Seagate owns Maxtor.

From some of the forum, people said some Maxtor also utilise SD15 firmware. (Which is exactly the problematic firmware for Seagate).

That solution may fix the 1TB HDD, but not my ST3500320AS 500GB HDD. I had also read some people after apply that SD1A for 500GB HDD, it turn your hardisk into a brick.

The ST3500320AS is listed there.

As for the bricking well if you're sending it for warranty it'll be one way or another right?

ya... Because i'm try to save all my photos inside it. IT is the best if can solve it, rather than just claim another one.

It has already causing some problem since i bought this HDD. WinXP cannot run well in it. So i have to keep my OS in the old Maxtor HDD.

By the way, I think I'll get another HDD even I can save this ST3500320AS. Seagate have truly proven their in-stability and undurable.

Yeah, and I think a similar problem exists for their older Barracuda 7200.8 drives as well. We already have what... 4 dead units of this model?
