Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | Okay so I dug this computer out of the trash and I've been trying to fix it up so that I can use it. My plan was just to format the hard drive and then put Linux on it cause its free. However every thing inside the computer was taken apart (including the cmos battery was taken out) so I put it all back together and started it up. It now gives me a screen that says "BIOS V3.2 0327296 KB Memory Good CPU Clock Mismatch CMOS Checksum Error Equipment Configuration Error Press Ctrl_Alt_Esc key to enter setup or F1 key to continue..." when I press Ctrl_Alt_Esc it doesn't do anything and when I press F1 it says "Password Violated, System Halted!" Do any of you know what to do to get me back on track for formatting? |

Lots of used systems are available for less than what your time is worth in fixing that machine you found. There could be chips taken off of it that you don't even know are missing. |

If not, it's probably worth replacing that coin cell and see if that corrects the CMOS checksum error. Otherwise, I agree with NArkshaRK that you need to start with at least a MB that is known to be functioning. Otherwise you'll spend all kinds of time/money trying to diagnose the problem. In the end, you may simply discover why this PC ended up in the trash in the first place. Depending on what kind of CPU/ram you have, you might want to reuse those (which will drive your MB decision). |

It also looks that there is a memory problem, check your RAM also. John Last edited by Chai : 21st Dec 2008 at 07:19 AM. Reason: Remove links |
