If all else fails and you still want the videos and the data, you need to send it to a data recovery center.

I don't think that's possible if the BIOS cannot even detect the hard disk drive...

how they save the data ? I had read that even the burned one still be able to get the data back, but very expensive

I think they either replace the damaged PCB (if that's the cause) or directly read the platters. Not too sure about HDD recovery methods.

I just got the new HDD Dell sent (pretty fast, only 1 business day!)
It's a Fujitsu 160GB and the laptop is back and running. Now to reinstall the OS QQ

BTW, does anyone know how to defrag outside of the Vista instead of pulling the drive out? I'm trying to create some partitions but there are some files that are not letting me resize the OS partition more than I want.

You can use third party software like Diskeeper. They will have an "offline" or "boot-time" option which allows you to defrag the HDD before the OS loads, so all files can be moved.

Hmm.. None that I personally know of.

Well, you can use the free defrag, but you will need to boot up using a separate OS on a different partition or HDD to defrag the current OS partition.
