Unhappy PC got wet!!

Hey people,

my pc got splashed with water yesterday (supersoaker fights indoors are reallly a bad idea) and my case cover was off, so some water got inside and now it wont work anymore The computer turns on as usual but the screen remains blank and nothing else happens. Ive taken a hairdryer to it, removed the graphics card and other things to see if they need drying but it still wont work.

does anyone have any suggestions? any help or ideas would be really appreciated

You shouldn't turn on the machine when it's wet. You should dry it properly.

Just pray it will work again after a day. If not, then you probably have to spend money...

Ouch! Leave it to dry in a place someplace... dry. Hairdrying it might cause static - so you need to put it someplace where it isn't containing water at all, or a really dry place.

Like Chai said, pray that it'll work. Any other wet parts in the PC?

Or another option - put the board in a plastic crate with a dessicator. I gonna check in the Net whether this will actually work or not.

edit: Here's a rough guide of "Surviving" wet laptops - but it'll give you some ideas about that and can be applicable to the desktop too. Wine In Laptop.

best way is

1. dismantle the entire system.
2. put it in a warm (not hot) place
3. make sure there's some air-flow around.

leave it for a day or 2. some nooks and cranny are better at holding water content, so may take a while to dry them off.

oh and before you start with point #2, do try knocking your components to a pillow or whatever soft object, even a carpet on floor would suffice. not hard knocks, moderate/gentle knocks to get water out of unseen places.

One thing you need to remember is water doesn't generally hurt electronics, short circuits do. Depending on the part, it may still work. Some parts, even after leaving them dry for a long period of time, still will hold water in certain places.

Also, if it doesn't come out in the end, make sure you test every part before buying all new. I'm sure many parts will still work even after turning the machine on while it's wet.

Good luck, hope things work out.
