Default start up problems

Help me
My computer is taking a long time to start up, it seems to pause when powered up for around a minute and the dvd rom makes a strange noise, after this the computer beeps and starts up as normal, once xp is loaded the dvd rom works fine. I have formated the hard drive cleared the CMOS cleaned the computer and checked the bios and made sure the bootup option are set to hard drive, but no joy, it still on power up or re-set takes about a minute with this dvd noise before the start up kicks in ?. Any information will be greatfuly received

Couple of questions...

1. What are your system specs?

2. Do you have anything loaded in your DVD drive?

3. Did you try booting up without your DVD drive?

The simple way to diagnosis the computer problem is take out the suspected hardware one-by-one. Then, you know which part gives you the problem.

is this recent or it has been happening for a long time?
check your boot priority, see if hard disk or CD/DVD-ROM is listed before each other.
