Hard disk test.

Hey guys,

I need your help again.
My friend's laptop is having some issues, I am suspecting the hard disk.

Any suggestions on how to test the hard disk? Boot disk?

I ran the Data Lifeguard Diagnostics test.

Extended Test
Results - "Too many errors found"
Error/Status Code = 0225

So, there is no hope?

or maybe the SATA controller is busted? or maybe the cable?

nvm, confirm its hard disk. ran the test on my laptop.

replacing it with 320gb wd scorpio black.

You didn't try to scan the drive for bad sectors?

No worries,

I used the Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostics.
This is the extended test results.

No hope right?

Usually this is cause by unrecoverable ECC errors. Which is usually caused by scratch on drive. Yeah replaced it since it is a year plus old drive. You can try to check if it is still valid for RMA.

Tried it, nope. It is a Dell hard disk and my friend's warranty is over

I ordered a 320GB Western Digital Scorpio Black for him.

Yea warranty from OEM is usually 1 year. Warranty from HDD manufacturer is 3 years. OEM just want to con you.

It's advisable to get 3yrs warranty for notebooks.

But my friend's one is only 1 year. I am considering extending my warranty. Any thoughts?

Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0Ghz
4gb RAM
160gb Hard disk

hard disk so fast out dated after ~3 years
Nvidia Geforce Go 7400

also outdated.
