Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | i faced similar problem with my old Saitek R4 FFW. A few weeks back, I tried to plug it into my SBLive!'s gameport and it didn't recognise the wheel. The wheel was meant for Win 95, 98...now i'm running WinXP. So i visited the company's website for the latest drivers for XP but they've stopped the development for the new drivers. But fortunately, it turned out that the Saitek wheel has almost the same electronics as the MS Sidewinder. I've took apart my wheel, examined the PCB and found 3 places for jumpers with only one connected. Interesting, isn't it? After removing the SMD shortcut on position J3, (Desolder J3 which is the surface-mounted link resistor) the wheel was recognised as an MS Sidewinder wheel. It will look like [000] the triple 000 means zero ohms. If you don't know how to desolder properly please make sure you get someone who can. Too much heat can and most probably will lift printed tracks from the board! Not to mention it is pretty tiny to be handled carefully. You wouldn't want to destroy your precious wheel. Once the link is removed. Put it all back together and plug it in. Goto game controllers in winxp and add SideWinder (AutoDetect) and viola! It should work the same in Win2K. Calibrate it properly and have some fun! Personally I modded it for Need for speed : Hot Pursuit 2 and i'm having a great time here... THIS MOD DOES WORK IN WINDOWS XP! even the force-feedback works flawlessly. Needless to say my wheel works fine since (under win2k as well). This hardware modding is an alternative to software drivers unless you really know what you are doing. Pc_Maniax: Examine the circuit board 1st before you do anything else. See whether if it looks the same as the picture attached. Different make might differ from each other but the technology is the same. (Saitek made the R4 under a license from MS for the FF technology). Just give it a try. You've got nothing to lose anyway.
