Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | Hello, I need some help flashing and updating my system BIOS. MY mobo is ECS N2U400A (1.0) PhoenixAward BIOS Ver 1.0b and I would like to update it to 1.0e. I have downloaded Winflash and the BIOS update. If someone would provide a step by step proccedure I would greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Reputation: 18 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | I strongly advise against flashing any bios under Windows. It's risky. You better format a floppy (with the option of include system files) and copy the rom bios file and flasher (classical one for ms-dos) there. Then, boot clean and flash it from ms-dos but backing up your old bios first.

Reputation: 3081 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Rep Power: 67 | Personally, I prefer to run it in DOS since that removes the risk of errant Windows applications screwing up the flash or crashing the system while the flash process is underway. Of course, you can prevent that by closing all applications but there will always be other apps running in the background like your anti-virus software, firewall, spywares you were not aware of, etc.. So, technically, flashing the BIOS via DOS is the safest way. All you load is DOS and the flash utility.
