Default Need help removing log on screen ?

After installing either sp2 or .net, I have been given a log on -off screen, regardless of whether I wanted it or not. I was advised that by installing .net 2 ,I would have the option of being able to remove the log screen. NO!
I have installed .net1.1,1.1 hotfix ?,and .net 2. I also ticked & unticked the "use welcome screen option in the control panel. Can anyone tell me what I need to do, to make the log on screen an option & not compulsory?

From what i am reading you are trying to do autologon on right? Well you can do it this way as well,
1) Click Start > Run
2) Type in control userpasswords2
3) Highlight your username and uncheck the box which says "User must enter name and password to use this computer"

Hit OK and you should just autologon on from now on

Use TweakUI. that's the easiest method. Not only that, you can tweak many other options as well with that utility. Here's the latest version of TweakUI for WinXP and Win2k3 Server. Here's the link for the PowerToys: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Hmm... just wondering, did you set password for your user?

Never know that without setting password also can enter Windows (with hyper's way).

Normally I don't set password for my pc at home and disable the logon window by going to Control Panel > Power Options > Advanced and uncheck the "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby".

basically the way i use you can change password for the adminsitrator accounts and all if you forget the administrator account, provided you are given permissions as an administrator, you can also grant permissions from there. You could probably edit the permissions by editing the group policies but i have never taken a look at the group policies before, you can do it by typing gpedit.msc at run

I tried hyper raiders' suggestion, but, when i tried to log on tonight it would not let me. Holy crap ,I thought!
Without going into too much detail (i.e log on info etc) .Updates & .net create extra log on names, & the one I must have chosen for auto logon is'nt the one that comes up at the start. Im not exactly sure what's happened or how to make the name default log on, but I definitely dont want be locked out of my computer by not being 100% of what I'm doing again, inadvertantly.
P.S. Does tweak u.i ask you to nominate a user or does it recognise the default log on user automatically ?
