Default Auto Complete not working

I have tried updating the registry and still cannot get AutoComplete to work. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that at one time I had a network logon on this machine. I've deleted that but still cannot get this to work.

Any suggestions

bj94109,

I read your message about this problem. To encourage a better response and make sure everyone here is on the same page, I will post it here :

Quote:
I posted a question about Auto Complete not working. I got a reply from zy which I cannot decipher. I'm getting a little tired of the inherrent obtuseness of this web site. Can someone provide me with a straight forward answer to my question, which is : I can not get Auto Complete to work after following instructions to update the registry.
Now, getting back to your question, I see several problems.

1. Your question in the first place is vague. Frankly speaking, I have no idea what you did, or what you are referring to. Only that some AutoComplete feature isn't working. No wonder zy is asking you AutoComplete for which software.

2. zy asked you which software you were referring to. Not only did you decline to respond, you have the gall to write in to us, complaining about the obtuseness of this forum? Now, who's obtuse?

3. Just in case you are not really sure what obtuse means, here's a definition of the word :

Quote:
Lacking quickness of perception or intellect.
Characterized by a lack of intelligence or sensitivity: an obtuse remark.
Now, if you are really serious about getting a straight answer, please fill us in on your problem with more details and intellect.

1. What instructions to change the registry did you follow before you had this problem?

2. Who gave you those instructions?

3. What changes did you make to the registry?

4. What exactly do you mean by "update the registry"?

5. What do you mean by your deleting of this "network logon"?

Seriously, you can call us obtuse, but we really can't read minds. Certainly we cannot even understand what you are trying to tell us.

Here are the answers:

1. What instructions to change the registry did you follow before you had this problem? The problem has existed for as long as I have had my PC.

2. Who gave you those instructions? The instructions came from a message board. I can't remember which one.

3. What changes did you make to the registry? I updated the default settings in the IE explorer auto complete area to 'yes'.

4. What exactly do you mean by "update the registry"? See above.

5. What do you mean by your deleting of this "network logon"?

My PC was cofigured to have a network logon in addition to my administrator account. This was done right after I purchased my PC (5 years ago). The Auto Complete for IE worked on that logon. I have since deleted it.

Arrow For Internet Explorer AutoComplete

I tried this and it worked, I use Win XP HOME:

Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type Services.msc, and then click OK. The Services snap-in appears. In the Name list, locate Protected Storage. Note the Status column. If Protected Storage is running, Started will appear under Status. If Protected Storage is not started, start it. To do this, right-click Protected Storage, and then click Start. (In some cases right-click Protected Storage, go to All Tasks, then click Start).

If the service is already started and running, Stop and Restart the service.

For more information visit windowsxp.mvps.org/ProtectedStorage.htm

Hope it will work

I tried starting and stopping Protected Storage. I also re-installed IE. Still no luck. I need to update the right registry key. Anyone know which one(s).

Thanks.
