We need a lot more details than that.

When does it happen? When is 'as I go along'? Num lock off doesn't mean anything. But whether the Numlock works means a lot of things.

Yeah more details is needed. I read this as when you formatted your monitor went into stand-by meaning orange light and your can't restart or turn your PC off.

You didn't touch anything after?

Did you try to pull the power cord or hold the power button for 5 secs to turn it off?

Does it POST at all?

As Shorter stated "probably card", not seated correctly, or power supply. Open your case and press down to make sure its seated correctly, and power lead attached (as i GF6800-7800 etc). If all ok leave side off case and have another crack at installing. If it works than there is a heating problem, or GXF card is cactus.....but as the rest of the guys said more info the better
