The story, which we covered here, was posted by Interrupting Moss here.

It purported to show how his MacBook Pro was overheating due to Apple engineers failing to apply thermal grease. The posting, which includes pictures, shows MacBook Pro users how to fix the problem.

The article also linked to the Apple Service Manual, to help people get inside their computer and this is what Apple legal found so offensive.

According to Something Awful an email from Apple claims that linking to the manual was an infringement of Apple's copyright.

It threatened to lean on somethingawful's ISP if its demands were not met. Somethingawful's webmaster said that nothing was hosted on his company's servers and all it had was a link going to somebody else's webspace.

"I guess Apple has no clue how the Internet even works; they should be threatening to sue the ISP hosting the horribly illegal service manual, not some guy who runs a forum where his forum members are TRYING TO HELP people fix issues with their faulty Apple computers."

He wrote back to Apple and told them to go forth and multiply, and got a standard email back.

One thing that he noticed from the headers was that Apple's legal department are using Microsoft Entourage. µ

HAHAHAHAHAHAAA!

I couldn't put more Thermal Paste on if I had a sudden epileptic seizure while holding the syringe!

Looks like it was overly "B*itchin" and the Apple Techs failed to restrain themselves.

EDIT: Stupid word censor.....

well, crashes that I had encountered are applications, and not the entire system unlike some other O/S out there

Besides, can you do this with your machine?
- stop doing whatever it is that you're doing
- close the lid and put it to sleep
- pick up the machine and slam the corner onto somebody's hand (or apply any other body part here)
- put it down again and continue working as if nothing's happened

Mmmm warm apple pie

My friend (he just got a MacBook Pro) showed me those pics a few days ago. My reply was something along the lines of the Mac assembly team being a bunch of noobs
(more to disturb him than anything else...don't take me too seriously )

Yeah, but can you crack open somebody's skull with it, then open the lid once more and resume your game of Quake 4?

Job's birthday? Nah.. my divine day is the day freebsd released their 1.0

Toughbook > all if you wanna use it to whack someone... Mac people are soo violent...

The US Army that uses it have claimed it stopping bullets. Drop proof, shock proof, dust proof, lately water channeling feature added, and mac attack proof...

Oh and it will play more than quake and a select few other games...

But let's get back to the topic that Mac (part of the 3%) is suing a site thats helping em fix their mistakes (other 97% doesnt do that ) regarding the thermal paste "oops is that enough" problem..

I have seen a lot of MacBooks before, especially from my group of photographers. Yes, the built quality is undeniable. But that doesn't mean it stand a chance with Toughbook. I'm sure you haven't heard of Toughbook before, which makes you think MacBook is the BEST.

OT: Which OS are you using? Win98? Ever since Win2k, I've never had OS stability issue. I can only blame it on the user... (or the application, just to be fair)

You know, I've seen very badly banged up and mashed up Powerbooks and iBooks that were still running fine and dandy (btw, iBook is made of bulletproof material too), or the case of the iPod nano where it was run under a VW after it was tossed and thrown out of the moving car and was still playing songs fine.

My point here is not whether the Macs, be it powerbook, macbook or ibook, is tougher than the panasonic toughbook. Point is.. face it. How many notebook users have notebooks that won't break easily? Like, how many of you actually own a Toughbook, you talk about it so much, but do you use it? Macs have a market share of 3%, lets say out of the 3%, 1.5% are Mac notebooks. And now let's say Toughbook has like 0.05%. That makes only 1.55% people in this world with a tough notebook..

And in case you didn't already hear about this, this one's probably tougher and more than the Toughbook or Power/Mac/iBook. The The Sun-Tadpole Bullfrog.

9kg of goodness to whack the daylight out of anyone at all.
